If you are not a citizen of a state stipulated in the list in order to receive a residence permit you shall submit the following documents:

Initial residence permit:

  • foreigners located in Latvia can:
  1. submit electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature; or
  2. send by post as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.
  • foreigners, who reside abroad of Latvia may submit the documents to the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia abroad.

Repeated residence permit:

  • foreigners located in Latvia can:
  1. submit electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature; or
  2. send by post as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.
  • foreigners, who stay abroad of Latvia, can submit the documents:
  1. electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature; or
  2. send by post from abroad as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.

  • Up to the third step relative vertically or the third step relative horizontally or
    a brother/sister-in-law up to the third step to a citizen or a non-citizen of Latvia or
    to a foreigner holding a permanent residence permit

  • A spouse of a citizen of Latvia, a non-citizen of Latvia or a foreigner holding
    a permanent residence permit

  • an individual merchant (businessman) registered in the Commercial Register

    (a foreign corporate entity) in activities related to the branch office

  • implementation of an international treaty or a project where the Republic of Latvia
    is a partner or providing assistance to public or municipal institutions
    of the Republic of Latvia

  • learning or studies at an accredited educational establishment on the basis
    of an exchange agreement

  • an pupil or a student of an educational establishment in connection with
    studies practice or training at an accredited educational establishment
    of the Republic of Latvia or a corporate body registered in the Commercial Register

  • you have been a citizen or a non-citizen of the Republic of Latvia prior to
    acquiring the citizenship of another country
