A foreigner, when obtaining a temporary residence permit, has the right to stay in Latvia for a certain period of time, but when the time passes, many foreigner has the need to receive a repeated residence permit or - to “prolong” it.
A foreigner may request a repeated residence permit during the time, when the prior residence permit is still valid, or within 90 days after expiry of the residence permit. It is important to take into account that the documents may be reviewed for 30 days and the residence permit document will be produced for 10 working days.
In order to receive a repeated residence permit, the following shall be required:
- A call approved by the Office. However, there are exceptions available, when the call is not necessary. Read more about exceptional cases here.
It is necessary to submit:
- a copy of a valid travel document;
- a submission in a free form (sample), specifying the reason for requesting of a residence permit and the time period, for which the residence permit is requested;
- the document, confirming the necessary means of support as long as the foreigner will stay in the Republic of Latvia (it should not be submitted, if it is submitted when preparing a call);
- a document, confirming the planned place of residence (should be submitted if it will change);
- payment document, confirming payment of the State fee.
IMPORTANT:
- Questionnaire for requesting of a residence permit shall be submitted only in certain cases, which are mentioned HERE.
- In addition, depending on the reason of arrival, if the reason for requesting of a residence permit does not change, a list of documents should be submitted, which can be viewed HERE.
Documents may be submitted:
- electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature; or
- send by post as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.
For how many times it is possible “to prolong” the residence permit?
Immigration Law does not contain norms, limiting the number of requesting a new temporary residence permit.
What to do if due to Covid-19 it is not possible to enter Latvia, in order to receive a repeated permanent residence permit?
When reviewing the matter about registration of the permanent residence permit or annulment, the absence from the Republic of Latvia during the time period from 12 March 2020 to 30 June 2021 is to be considered as justified.
