Project “Development of a New Information System for Identity Documents, Implementation of a Partial Self-Service Solution, and Development of Technical Infrastructure for the Issuance of Identity Documents”.

A Latvian state authority is creating a new information system and electronic services.

The system will contain information about passports and ID cards.

The goal of the project is to issue passports and ID cards faster and more easily.

At the end of the project, there will be:

  • a new information system for documents;
  • new equipment for document processing;
  • clients will be able to apply electronically for document processing;
  • clients will be able to collect documents without visiting the authority in person;
  • clients will be able to report events abroad electronically. This means it will no longer be necessary to send documents by post to the authority if marriages, childbirths, or other events occur outside Latvia.

The project is being developed together with the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior and the Latvian State Radio and Television Centre.
The project is supported by a European Union fund.
The funding for the project comes from the European Union Cohesion Policy programme.
