Procedure for the entry of new citizens of the Republic of Korea into the Republic of Latvia in accordance with Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Korea Concerning a Working Holiday Programme.
This procedure applies to the citizens of the Republic of Korea who reside in the Republic of Korea and are aged between 18 and 34 (including) on the day of submitting the visa application and who meet the criteria of Article 1 of the Agreement, i.e.:
- they plan to enter the Republic of Latvia primarily for holiday purposes, during which they are permitted to undertake casual employment to supplement their available financial resources;
- they are not accompanied by dependants;
- they possess a valid passport (valid for at least 15 months from the date of visa issuance);
- they have a valid return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket;
- they have sufficient funds to cover the expenses of residence in the Republic of Latvia during the initial phase of their stay (for the first three months);
- the Republic of Latvia has not previously issued them a long-term visa in accordance with the work and holiday programme;
- they have a valid comprehensive insurance policy for the permitted period of stay, which includes coverage for workplace accidents and healthcare services, including medical expenses, hospitalisation and repatriation;
- they do not suffer from diseases that may endanger public health (tuberculosis (TB));
- they have no criminal record.
A citizen of the Republic of Korea at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Japan, Tokyo submits:
- a valid copy of the Republic of Korea citizen's passport (presenting the original), the validity of which exceeds the intended period of stay in the Republic of Latvia by at least three months (i.e., valid for at least 15 months);
- a specific application form for a long-term visa (D visa), indicating the reason for stay – in accordance with the Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the Republic of Korea Concerning a Working Holiday Programme (fill in e-application form);
- a photo (not older than 6 months, on a white background);
- a document confirming that the person has a valid medical insurance policy for the entire planned period of stay;
- documents confirming sufficient financial means for the first three months (at least EUR 740 per month and financial resources to pay for accommodation);
- a medical certificate confirming that they do not suffer from diseases that may endanger public health (tuberculosis (TB));
- the state fee for issuing a long-term visa is EUR 90.
In certain cases, you may be required to:
- present official documentary evidence of good conduct, for example, an extract from the criminal record;
- indicate that the primary purpose for entry into the Republic of Latvia is holiday and work is only a secondary purpose, not the main reason for travel.
A long-term visa is issued for a period of up to one year. The issued visa will bear the notation "WORKING HOLIDAY PROGRAMME – KOREA".
The annual quota for the number of entrants under the working holiday scheme is 100.
