The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter - the Office) continues the implementation of the 1st stage of the European Union Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund project “Modernization of the Software Platform of the Unified Migration Information System”.

Within the framework of the project, a migration informational phone was established in October this year to provide the customers of the Office with an opportunity to receive answers to general questions on migration, residence permits, visas and other issues related to legal residence in the Republic of Latvia in a convenient and quick way. So far, the migration informational phone operators have provided more than 3000 consultations on the most topical migration issues, thus extending the possibility for customers to obtain information on the most recent amendments to the Immigration Law.

Significant work has also been done in the area of digitisation of documents – 16 000 personal files have been digitized during the project, including asylum documentation. The digitization process is ongoing and allows for the modernization of archiving and maintenance of documents.

At the same time, extensive work is underway on a convenient, modern and easy-to-use e-service for residence permits, which will allow third-country nationals to submit their documents remotely. Given the scale of the project, a call for tenders for the development of the e-service will be launched in the near future.

The introduction of the e-service will help the Office to provide its customers with a high quality service experience, as it will be accessible anywhere, anytime, and all documents submitted and decisions taken by the Office will be available in one place in a transparent manner.

The total funding of the project is 1 600 000 euros, out of them the funding of the fund is 1 200 000 euros and co-funding of the state budget –  400 000 euros. The project will last until 30 June 2025.

Project No. PMLP/PMIF/2023/1.
