In order to provide support to Lithuania with regard to emergency situation due to big flow of migrants, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (hereinafter - the Office) will ensure the support of four asylum seekers accommodation experts to the Foreigners Registration Centre of Lithuania from 9 August to 23 August of the current year.

Due to the increasing flow of migrants, the government of the Republic of Lithuania has declared the emergency situation in the country and requested international political, financial and operative support from the institutions and agencies of the European Union as well as other Member Countries.

In response to the invitation sent by the European Asylum Support Office to the EU + Member States at the end of July 2021 to apply for experts to participate in the Lithuanian capacity building assistance, Latvia has applied in total four experts of the Office with previous experience in providing assistance to Greece and Cyprus.         

Participation of two experts of the Office in the capacity building event is already approved, and experts will provide support to Lithuania during the time period from 9 August to 15 October of the current year for work with less protected persons, such as minors, pregnant women, persons with health disorders etc. It is planned that the place of work of the Latvian experts will be at Foreigners Registration Centre in Pabrade, however, responding to variable circumstances, the work duties as well as the place may change.

Currently it is planned that the participation of the rest two accommodation experts of the Office in the capacity building event will take place from 14 October to 23 December of the current year.

Participation of the experts of the Office in the capacity building support event in Lithuania is funded by the European Asylum Support Office, in accordance with the agreement concluded between Lithuania and the European Asylum Support Office on 15 July 2021.
