We often receive questions about residence permits. Today we explain:

  • How to submit documents for review of a residence permit?
  • How fast it is possible to submit a residence permit?
  • What are the necessary means of support in order to receive a residence permit?
  • To what account the State fee for a residence permit should be paid?

A residence permit is required if you wish to stay in the Republic of Latvia for longer than 90 days during a six-month period, counting from the first day of entry.

In order to receive a residence permit, a list of documents specified HERE (https://www.pmlp.gov.lv/lv/uzturesanas-atlauja) should be submitted.

How to submit documents for review of a residence permit?

If you are a foreigner or his/her family member and you are in Latvia, then it is possible to submit the documents for requesting a residence permit in the following ways:

  • electronically, confirming each document with a secure electronic signature;
  • send by post as an ordinary, non-registered item, presenting in the application documents their e-mail address and telephone number for communication.

In turn, if  you stay abroad of Latvia, may submit documents for requesting a first-time residence permit to the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia abroad.

IMPORTANT
Documents for requesting of a residence permit or permanent residence permit should be submitted in person.

Documents on behalf of a minor person may be submitted by a legal representative of the person.

How fast it is possible to submit a residence permit?

Documents for registration of a valid residence permit shall be submitted, considering the time period for review of documents (30 days) and production of a residence permit (10 working days).

How much of financial means should you have on the bank account for a residence permit?

The necessary means of support are determined, depending on the reasons of stay of a foreigner. More detailed information - here.

The payment should be made to the account of the Treasury:

When making a transfer, you should specify in the payment order the name and surname of the person, about whom the payment of the State fee is made.
