Providing information on the identity code allocated by a foreign country

As of 1 July 2017 the Population Register shall accumulate information about the identity code of a foreigner, recorded in his/her personal identity document, and information on the identity code allocated by a foreign country for a citizen of Latvia and non-citizen of Latvia, as well as persons, who have received residence permits, certificates of registration or permanent residence permits in Latvia.
 
Information shall be provided within 30 days after the change of information included in the Population Register or afterwards, when the person has become aware of the relevant information.
Citizens of Latvia and non-citizens of Latvia as well as persons, who have received a residence permit, registration certificate or permanent residence permit in Latvia, shall provide information regarding the identity code, allocated by a foreign country until 30 June 2017, to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs until 1 January 2020.
 
Necessary documents:
  1. a personal identity document (a passport or personal identity card);
  2. a document confirming the identification code allocated by a foreign country.
The document issued by a foreign authority shall be translated into Latvian (except if the document is in English, German, French or Russian and it is submitted to the diplomatic or consular representative office of Latvia abroad or is sent via mail from abroad) and legalised in accordance with the procedures prescribed by regulatory enactments. Translation and legalization shall not be required for personal identity documents, residence permits, registration certificates or permanent residence permits and health insurance cards.
 
Legalisation shall not be required for the document, issued by the countries of the European Union, European Economic Area or public documents issued by the Swiss Confederation that  are provided for use in Latvia.
