First of all, you must prepare the computer for operations with a personal certificate. When the computer is prepared for work with the personal certificate, and the personal certificate has been inserted into a smart card reader, having electronically obtained a service from the service provider who ensures the possibility to authenticate with the personal certificate at, for example, website www.latvija.lv, choose a type of authentication shown by the eID or e-me symbol.
In order to verify your identity, the software will ask you to enter and confirm your PIN1 code. If you entered a correct PIN1 code and the authentication certificate included in the personal certificate is valid (it will not be expired or its functions will not be ceased), your identity will be checked successfully and you will be able to receive the service.
