With a residence permit, which includes and has activated the authentication certificate, you may confirm your identity remotely - in the electronic environment. That is possible, if the service provider provides the possibility to authenticate with eID. In eID cards certificates are included and activated by default for all, starting from the age of 14 years, except the cases, if the persons have denied themselves from activation of digital certificates.
You have to prepare the computer for work with a residence permit certificate. When the computer is prepared for work and the residence permit certificate is inserted in the smartcard reader, you may receive the service on the electronic environment from the service provider, ensuring the possibility to authenticate with the certificate, for example, on the portal www.latvija.lv, select the authentication type that eID or e-me symbol indicates on.
In order to confirm your identity, the software will ask you to enter your PIN1 code and approve. If you will enter correct PIN1 and the authentication certificate included in the personal identity card will be valid (it will not be expired or suspended), your identity will be successfully verified and you will be able to receive the service.
