DOCUMENTS THAT ARE NECESSARY TO RECEIVE VISA

Documents required for a visa application:

• a valid travel document;
• a visa application form filled out and signed;
• a photo;
• a copy of a document confirming that the applicant has a health insurance policy;
• documents verifying the reason for entry and the anticipated place of residence, or documents indicating that a letter of invitation has been approved by the OCMA (the invitation is valid for 6 months from the date of approval);
• a receipt confirming the fee payment.

According to the Immigration Law, in order to be able to enter and stay in the Republic of Latvia, a foreign national must prove that he/she has sufficient financial means.

The following amounts are required:

• if the party extending the invitation provides the foreign national being invited with accommodation, the estimate for the required financial means is 10 LVL a day;
• if the foreign national intends to stay at a tourist accommodation, the estimate for the required financial means takes into account the cost of lodging based on the applicable rates, and is at least 30 LVL a day.

In cases when the electronic information system – the invitation data base – contains information that the party extending the invitation will cover the expenses related to the foreign national’s stay in the Republic of Latvia, visa applicants do not have to submit documents verifying their financial means.

If the individual(s) being invited is/are a spouse, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren and their spouses, or if the party extending the invitation confirms, with his/her signature, that he/she has sufficient financial means and that the foreign national being invited will not become a burden to the state social assistance programme, evidence of sufficient financial means may not be requested.
