Order of residence permit registration

Documents for registration of a valid residence permit shall be submittedpersonally to a regional office of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs 30 to 90 days prior to the date of expiry of the registration of a temporary residence permit and not later than 30 days prior to the date of expiry of registration of a permanent residence permit.

A citizen or a family member of a citizen of a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Zone, or the Switzerland Confederation does not need to register his or her residence permits.

A call approved by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs is required for registration of a residence permit. A call is not required if a foreigner has received a temporary residence permit according to the Immigration Act Section 23, Part 1, Paragraph 2, 4, 7, or 8, or wishes to register a permanent residence permit.

!!! If the invitation comes from a legal entity, the documents shall be submitted in compliance with the address of the legal entity.

!!! If the invitation comes from an individual, the documents shall be submitted according to the declared place of residence or according to the place of residence given as additional.

For a residence permit registration, a foreigner shall present:

• A valid travel document admitted in the Republic of Latvia;
• A document confirming that a foreigner has a valid health insurance policy (when registering the permanent residence permit, no policy is necessary).
  

!!! If stay of a foreigner in the Republic of Latvia is related to employment or business activity, or if a foreigner is self-employed, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, the foreigner must submit a statement issued by a competent authority certifying making of compulsory instalment for state social insurance.

The decision on registration of a residence permit will be made after examination of the documents submitted, interview and verification of other data.
