Fourteen persons have been resettled from Greece in scope of the EU Resettlement Programme
On Monday, 20 March, fourteen persons in need for international protection, including ten children of minor age, were resettled to Latvia from Greece in scope of the European Union Resettlement Programme.
Two families resettled to Latvia on Monday come from Syria; they are currently located in the Asylum Seekers’ Centre Mucenieki.
The resettled persons include representatives of such professions as driver and dressmaker.
As it was notified before, pursuant to international procedures and the Asylum Law, officials of the State Border Guard accept applications and inform the persons about rights and obligations of an asylum seeker during the asylum procedure immediately after the persons’ arriving in Latvia. Officials of the State Border Guard will proceed with their work with asylum seekers during next few days and will draw up documents required for handing over of the case materials to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs for taking further actions and deciding on granting of refugee or alternative status.
In scope of the European Union Resettlement Programme, Latvia has accepted 270 persons already.
