Fifteen persons from Greece have been resettled in scope of the EU Resettlement Programme
On Tuesday, 18 October, in scope of the European Union Resettlement Programme, fifteen persons in need for international protection including nine minors were resettled to Latvia from Greece.
Three families resettled to Latvia on Tuesday come from Syria; the persons are located in the Asylum Seekers’ Accommodation Centre Mucenieki currently.
The resettled persons represent the following professions: a teacher, a tailor and a food industry worker. The persons have specified competence in Arabic, English and Kurmanji in their applications.
As it was notified before, pursuant to international procedures and provisions of the Asylum Law, officials of the State Border Guard accept applications of the resettled persons and inform them about rights and obligations of an asylum seeker during the asylum procedure immediately after the persons’ arriving in Latvia. Officials of the State Border Guard will proceed with their work with asylum seekers during next few days and will draw up documents required for handing over of the case materials to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs for taking further actions and deciding on granting of refugee or alternative status.
In scope of the EU Resettlement Programme, Latvia has accepted 109 persons already.
